Caring for your wood kitchen cabinets

Published on 17 Feb 2022 | Kube Design Ideas

Cleaning your new kitchen regularly will maintain its appearance for many years to come, but what is the best way to care for wood kitchen cabinets? Here are some suggestions to keep them looking their best. If you would like to receive the full version of our maintenance guide, please contact us here.

All solid wood and veneer surfaces in your kitchen cabinets should be wiped with a dry duster. For cleaning stubborn dirt on the veneered surfaces, a damp chamois leather or a fine, damp sponge cloth (not wet) can be used. A mild, non-scouring detergent may also be used. It is important to wipe in the direction of the grain, so that any possible dirt can be wiped out of the pores. Then, wipe over carefully with a dry lint-free soft cloth.

For cleaning cupboard interiors, shelves and drawers use damp cloths or a chamois leather, with a little methylated spirit if you wish. You can also use common household liquid cleaner (glass cleaner). Always wipe over with a fluffy dry cloth after cleaning.

No specific cleaning agents are required for colour lacquered surfaces. Use washing-up liquid mixed with warm water for stubborn dirt: wipe down surfaces with a damp, soft cloth in circular movements. Wipe over with a second damp cloth (without the addition of washing-up liquid), and immediately dry the surface.
